# Trading - Trouble Shooting

**Why can’t I buy a token?**

* Potential reasons include:

  * The network is busy, and your transaction has expired. You can retry swapping - our system will resubmit with a higher gas.
  * The return amount is not enough. You can retry using a higher slippage setting. The slippage limit is the difference between your expected output and the real output at the time of your swap. The transaction will fail if the real output changes by more than your set slippage. At your own risk, you can adjust the slippage limits.

**Why can’t I sell a token?**

* Reasons may include:
  * Insufficient assets in the DEX pool. Check the “Major Assets in Pool” on the token’s analytics page to verify liquidity availability.
  * The token has become unsellable, also known as a honeypot (trading paused, super high tax, contract code exploited, etc.). We have partnered with Tokensniffer and [Honeypot.is](https://www.honeypot.is) to provide token security scans to avoid such situations. However, a token’s sellable status can always change, so always verify before trading.

**Why did my transaction fail?**

* In addition to possible reasons mentioned in "[**Why can’t I buy a token?**](/faqs/trading-trouble-shooting)**"** and "[**Why can’t I sell a token?**](/faqs/trading-trouble-shooting)**"**, other possible reasons include:
  * Insufficient Funds: If you do not have enough of your network’s native token to cover the network costs, you will not be able to execute a transaction. Each transaction requires this network cost to execute a transaction. You can purchase more of your network's native token, adjust your swap amount, or wait for the cost to go down.
  * Token Fee (Token Tax): The token you are swapping may have a buy/sell tax in the token’s contract, and the slippage will need to be increased. We work with Tokensniffer and [Honeypot.is](https://www.honeypot.is) for information about token tax - you can see them when you hover over a token on Candlestick.

**Why can't I spend all my ETH balance on a trade?**

* A small amount of ETH must be reserved to cover the gas fees for your transactions. When you click max ETH on a trade, our system will reserve a small amount of gas for you based on the network condition, and you will be spending the largest possible amount of your ETH balance.

# Fee

**How are trading fees calculated?**

* Trading fees, which range from 0.6% to 1% depending on membership status, are not directly taken from each transaction but accumulated and deducted when they exceed $30 or upon fund withdrawal.
* Copy trading charges a 1% fee regardless of your membership status.

**How are fees taken?**

* Fees are accumulated across different chains per account.
* We do not take fees directly from each transaction. The system calculates the fees you owe and extracts them when over $30 in unpaid fees have accumulated or when you withdraw funds from your wallet.
* To avoid multiple transactions and save gas on transfers, fees will be taken from the balance available in the following order: ETH, USDC, USDT.
* The primary source of fund collection is your main wallet, if there are no sufficient funds in the main wallet, funds will be collected from the strategy Vault.

# Security

**Is Candlestick’s wallet safe?**

* Yes, Candlestick prioritizes wallet security, which is why they are safely stored and managed using [Turnkey](https://www.turnkey.com/).

**Can I export the private keys of my Candlestick wallet?**

* No you can't export private key. The wallet is secured by Turnkey. Private key export is disabled for safety purposes. Their tech approach is that the private keys are never exposed, not even Turnkey, Candlestick, or anyone else.

**How many wallets can I create on Candlestick?**

* On Candlestick, you’ll have multiple wallets secured by Turnkey. There are 2 types of wallets:
  * Main Wallet: Your primary address for
    * Manual trading and placing limit orders;
    * Deposit and withdraw;
    * When starting a copy-trading strategy, funds are sent from this wallet. Funds back here when it closes.
  * Strategy Vault
    * Each strategy uses a dedicated wallet, a Vault. A new Vault is created for each strategy and is burnt once the position is closed.

**Can I turn off 2FA?**

* No, Two-factor authentication (2FA) is required to ensure the security of your funds when withdrawing, investing in a strategy, or trading.

**I see transfers that I haven't authorized.**

* If the transfers match the transactions under [User Center,](https://www.candlestick.io/user/trading/) it means they are the trading fees being collected by the system. Please refer to "[How are fees taken](/faqs/fee)" in the Fees section.

# Trade Setting

**What are Gas settings and which one should I choose?**

* You can choose from Market, Fast, or Aggressive gas options based on your need for speed:

  * Market: Match current market rate. In a volatile market, your trade submitted with this gas setting might take longer to confirm.
  * Fast: About 1.5x of the market rate.
  * Aggressive: About 2x of the market rate.

**What is Auto Approval? Can I turn it off?**

* Auto Approval speeds up transactions by handling token approvals automatically. This feature cannot be turned off to ensure smooth trading.
* How it works: When selling an erc-20 token on-chain, you usually need to do two steps: 1. approve the token to the smart contract, and 2. The smart contract executes the trade. With Auto Approval, you will only need to click “Swap” once, and Candlestick will handle the token approval process for you in the back.

**What is Default Spending?**

* It is the preset amount your ETH will spend on future trades. It enables you to get the quote output amount faster because you no longer need to key in the input amount. You can always change the default spending amount.

**What does it mean when I turn on “Required Confirmation”?**

* Required Confirmation means that you'll see a preview of your trade which must be confirmed manually before it is executed. When turned off, your trade will be sent to the blockchain once you hit the “Swap” button.

# Deposit & Withdraw

**What tokens can I deposit?**

* You can deposit native ETH, ERC-20, or ERC-414 tokens into your Candlestick wallet. However, you must deposit ETH as gas to initiate transactions.

**What networks can I deposit from?**

* We currently only support deposits and trading on the Ethereum mainnet and Base L2. Depositing funds to your Candlestick wallet from any unsupported network might result in lost funds, and we can’t help restore them.

**Can I withdraw ERC-20 tokens from my wallet?**

* You can only withdraw native ETH tokens from your Candlestick wallet.

**Why do I see unpaid fees when I withdraw?**

* Please refer to "[How are fees taken](/faqs/fee)" in the Fees section.

**I have 1 ETH in my wallet, but why does it show that I can only receive less than 1 ETH when withdrawing?**

* Reasons include:
  * You need to pay gas fees to send a transaction on the blockchain.
  * You might have unpaid trading fees that need to be deducted. Please refer to "[How are fees taken](/faqs/fee)" in the Fees section.

# FAQs - Copy Trading Strategy

# Copy Trading Basics

**What is a Copy Trading Strategy?**

* A Copy Trading Strategy, or Strategy, is a feature that replicates the trades of a list of blockchain addresses. You can utilize Candlestick’s TraderScan to discover top traders and add up to 10 addresses to your strategy.

**Is there a fee for using the Copy Trading Strategy feature?**

* Yes - there is a 1% trading fee for using the Copy Trading feature. A Vault implements your Strategy - that being said, all trades that happen in the Vault will be charged a 1% fee, regardless of your membership status.

**How are fees taken?**

* Please see [fee](/faqs/fee)[s](/faqs/fee).

**Do I need to pay a gas fee for copy trading?**

* Yes, you must pay gas fees to execute transactions on the blockchain. 100% of the fee goes to the blockchain's miner or validator.

**What is the minimum amount required to start a Copy Trading Strategy?**

* The minimum trade size for copy trading is 0.02 ETH. To cover at least two trades, plus gas fees, starting with a minimum of 0.05 ETH is recommended.

**Why isn't my Copy Trading Strategy making money?**

Copy trading doesn’t guarantee profits, even when replicating the trades of a previously successful address. Various factors, including slippage, liquidity, buy/sell tax, and the token’s trade status, can impact performance and alter outcomes between trades. Additionally, your chosen execution settings affect the timing and triggers of trades, which may lead to some trades failing or not being executed. It's important to conduct your research, verify the trading activity of the addresses you follow, actively monitor your positions, and adjust your execution settings to optimize results.

# Wallet & Security

**Understanding Wallets on Candlestick**

* On Candlestick, you’ll have multiple wallets secured by [Turnkey](https://www.turnkey.com). There are 2 types of wallets:
  * Main Wallet: Your primary address for manual trading and placing limit orders, Deposits, and withdraws. When starting a copy-trading strategy, funds are sent from this wallet. Funds will be back here when it closes.
  * Strategy Vault—Each strategy uses a dedicated wallet, a Vault. A new Vault is created for each strategy and burned once the position is closed.

**When I start a copy trading strategy, where will the trades be executed?**

* Each strategy is run by a dedicated wallet, a Vault. A new Vault is created for each strategy and is burnt once the position is closed.

**Can I import my own wallet to execute the strategy?**

* No, you can't. Each strategy is run by a dedicated wallet, a Vault, which seamlessly executes the copy trading strategies—copy buy/copy sell, auto limit order, stop loss/take profit, etc.

**Can I withdraw funds from my vault?**

* Yes, funds can be rotated between Vaults and your main wallet for your needs. You can transfer ETH from a Vault to your main wallet at any time via ETH transfer or Close Position.

\
**Why can't I use my main wallet for copy trading? Why do you set up a Vault for each strategy?**

* Your main wallet serves your daily trading needs, and a vault is dedicated to a Strategy. As a Strategy might be copying up to 10 different addresses, there will be times when different trades are queued. Separating strategy and your day trading wallet will ensure they don’t interrupt each other.

**Can I export the private keys of my Candlestick wallet?**

* No, you can't export private keys. The wallet is secured by Turnkey. Private key export is disabled for safety purposes. Their tech approach is that the private keys are never exposed, not even Turnkey, Candlestick, or anyone else.

# Execution Settings

**What is the minimum amount required to copy a trader?**

* While gas fees are associated with executing trades on the blockchain, the system will recommend a minimum trade size based on current network conditions.
* On Ethereum, it’s generally advisable to invest at least $200 to ensure the gas fees are reasonable relative to the size of your trades, optimizing the value of your transaction.

**What is price protection?**

* Price protection helps you avoid entering a trade with high slippage, which can lead to potential losses in copy trading. For example, a 5% price protection means that the system will only execute the trade if your buy/sell price is within 5% of the original trade's price. If the desired price isn’t met after the original order, the system will automatically place a limit order for your desired price and continue to search for opportunities over the next 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour.
* You can adjust your price protection settings at any time, but any changes will only apply to future trades.

**What happens if the system is still searching for the desired price and the copied wallet sells the token?**

* If the copied wallet fully sells its tokens while the system is still searching for your desired buy price, it will automatically cancel the limit buy order, ensuring that you don’t enter a trade after the original wallet has exited.

**Take-Profit and Stop-Loss Orders**

* These are automated orders designed to protect your profits or limit losses by triggering a sell before the copied wallet trades.

  * **Take-Profit:** This order automatically sells all your tokens when the price reaches a certain percentage (x%) above your average buy price, locking in profits before the copied trader exits the position.
  * **Stop-Loss:** This order automatically sells all your tokens when the price falls to a certain percentage (x%) below your average buy price, limiting your potential loss in case the market turns against your position.

Both orders help you manage risk and customize your trading strategy while copy trading.

**What is High Fee Protection?**

* High fee protection allows you to set a maximum gas fee limit to prevent paying excessively high gas fees during periods of market volatility.
* The copy trade will not be executed if the gas fees exceed your set limit. However, if the buy trigger remains available when gas fees drop below your maximum limit, the trade will automatically be executed, ensuring that you avoid overpaying for transactions while still capturing opportunities when conditions improve.

**Selling: Pro-rata Mode**

* In Pro-rata Mode, when the strategy you are copying sells a certain percentage of its holdings, the system will automatically sell the same percentage of your holdings. For example, if the copied strategy sells 30% of its position, the system will also sell 30% of your position, ensuring your trades remain in sync with the strategy proportionally.

**Buy/Sell Tax Protection**

* This feature prevents you from purchasing any token with a buy or sell tax exceeding your limit, with the default set at 5%.
* However, it's important to note that buy/sell taxes can change over time. There may be instances where a token's tax rate is below your set limit when you enter, but it may increase afterward, or vice versa.

**MEV Protection**

* All EVM trades through Candlestick are protected by [Merkle](https://www.merkle.io).

**Auto approve after buying a token**

* Once a token is successfully purchased, the system will automatically approve the token for future transactions. This allows for faster and more efficient execution of any future sell orders, ensuring that your sell orders can be initiated quickly.

**Slippage Setting - Buy and Sell**

* The default slippage tolerance is set at 1% for buy orders and 3% for sell orders. The trade will fail if the price moves such that the return amount is insufficient within the set slippage. In such cases, the system will automatically retry the trade using the maximum slippage tolerance you've set for auto retries, ensuring a better chance for successful execution.

**Slippage Setting - Stop Loss/Take Profit/Auto-Retry**

* This refers to the maximum slippage applied to all your trades, including stop-loss, take-profit, and auto-retry orders. The default maximum slippage is set at 3%, but you can adjust it to fit your strategy and risk tolerance.

**Auto-Retry attempts?**

* The system will automatically retry failed trades up to 5 times. This increases the chances of successfully executing the trade if the initial attempt fails due to slippage or other factors. Each retry will adjust based on your set slippage and the prevailing market conditions to optimize execution.

**Auto-adjusting Slippage for Tokens with Taxes**

* If you're trying to buy a token with a tax, such as a 5% buy tax, but you've only set a 1% slippage tolerance, the trade will fail. This not only causes you to miss the trade but also results in wasted gas fees for the failed transaction. Auto-adjusting slippage is designed to protect you in such cases.
* When you attempt to buy a token within your desired tax range, the system will automatically adjust your slippage tolerance based on the token's tax and your initial slippage setting, ensuring your trade goes through without unnecessary failures or wasted gas fees.

**Honeypot Protection**

* A honeypot refers to a token that cannot be sold, which can occur for various reasons such as trading being paused, extremely high taxes, or an exploit in the contract code. To safeguard your funds, Candlestick has partnered with Tokensniffer and Honeypot.is to provide real-time token security scans. Before every copy trade, the system scans the latest status of the token you’re about to trade. If the token is identified as a honeypot, the system will immediately cancel the pending buy order, protecting you from entering a non-sellable position.
* However, since a token’s sellable status can change at any time, it’s always recommended to double-check before trading.

**Auto-adjusting Buy Size**

Automatically scale your trade sizes based on the conviction levels of the traders you copy:

* **If trade size < 50% of their average:** Use the **minimum buy size**
* **If trade size ≥ 200% of their average:** Use the **maximum buy size**
* **If trade size is in between:** Use your **default buy size**

This dynamic adjustment helps you capitalize on high-conviction trades while managing risk effectively.

**Copy Trade 'First-in' Tokens Only**

When enabled, your strategy will only buy tokens that an address acquires **for the first time** after being added to your Strategy. This prevents you from copying trades for tokens that the address already held (or profited) before you started following them.

# Creating/Editing A Strategy

**Can I edit a strategy that I didn’t create?**

* Yes, you can edit a strategy that you didn’t create. However, your changes will be saved as a new copy of the original strategy, and the original strategy will remain unchanged.

**What happens when I remove an address from an ongoing strategy?**

* If you’ve already bought tokens based on trades from the removed address, don’t worry—those tokens will still be sold automatically when the removed address sells them. The system will continue to track and execute the sell orders for tokens you hold, even after the address is removed from your strategy.

**What happens when I add an address to an ongoing strategy?**

* Once you add a new address to an ongoing strategy, you will start copying the trades of that address moving forward. Any new trades executed by the added address will be automatically copied in your strategy.

**What happens when I edit the execution settings of an ongoing strategy?**

* Any trades that occur after you edit the execution settings will follow the new settings. However, copy trade orders that were placed before the edit will still be executed based on the previous settings. For example, if you change your stop-loss from 30% to 50%, the tokens you bought before the change will still be executed at the 30% stop-loss.

# Investing in A Copy Trading Strategy

**Can I invest in a Strategy that I did not create (eg. system created strategy)?**

* Yes, you can invest in a strategy created by other users if they choose to share it in the market. The strategy creator may charge additional fees (creator fees) based on your trading volume or profits as a management fee.

**What happens when the creator adds/removes addresses to the Strategy I invested in?**

* If you have already purchased a token based on an address in a strategy and that address is later removed, you will still copy its sell orders, but no new buy orders will be placed for that address.
* This works the same way when you edit addresses in strategies you created.

**What happens if the addresses in a system-created strategy become inactive or underperform?**

Our system continuously monitors the performance of system-created strategies. If an address becomes inactive or underperforms, it will be automatically removed and replaced with high-performing addresses.

# Trade Executions

**Did you build your own router to execute the trades? Is it audited?**

* We use KyberSwap’s Meta Aggregation Router as the default contract to ensure you get the best possible price for your trades. KyberSwap is widely used and trusted, providing robust security and price efficiency. You can learn more about KyberSwap’s solutions and audits by visiting [their official resources](https://kyberswap.com/swap/ethereum).

**What happens when I don’t have enough funds to copy the next trade?**

* Your strategy will automatically pause if your ETH balance drops below the minimum amount required for a trade. This ensures that no further trades are attempted until you have sufficient funds to continue.

**Can I sell my tokens in my vault before the copied address has sold them?**

* Yes, you can sell your tokens at any time, even if the copied address hasn’t sold theirs yet. After you manually sell a token, you won’t trigger any further sell orders for that token when the copied address sells, as your balance will be zero. However, if any address in your strategy buys the token again, you will still repurchase it according to the strategy settings.

**How fast can your system execute copy trades? Can you trigger trades in the same block or the next block?**

* Many solutions prioritize speed, aiming to execute your trade in the same or next block. However, speed isn’t always the best approach. Rushing a trade can often lead to buying at a much higher price. Candlestick takes a different approach—if the price of a token exceeds your target by, say, 5%, our system will automatically place a limit order and continue searching for your desired price over the next 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour. This ensures you get a better price without sacrificing value for speed.
* If you prefer faster execution over price optimization, you can always adjust this in the price protection settings.

**Why has my copy trade failed?**

* You can see execution details in the copy trading history and the reasons for the failures, if there are any.
